Just as New York City was its own character on the HBO series and in the first “Sex and the City” movie, so was Carrie Bradshaw’s Mac computer. Carrie’s laptop, with its instantly recognizable Apple logo, was shown in nearly every episode of the series, and often seemed to represent her career as a writer, and with it, her independence. In fact, one episode even centered around a laptop wipeout and a replacement MacBook.
But Carrie and Mac are no more, at least for the latest iteration of the “Sex and the City” franchise: because of a deal with Hewlett-Packard, only HP computers will be shown in “Sex and the City 2″ (though with the whole team going to the desert, who knows how much screen time a computer will even get). Hewlett-Packard has partnered with the movie to increase its brand recognition with stylish women, and Sarah Jessica Parker herself will even be doing commercials and other ads for the brand. And Carrie isn’t the only one who will sport a new PC: stills show Kim Cattrall using a desktop version of the HP TouchSmart at her desk.
The HP deal is far from the only product placement in the movie. The New York Times reports that other partners include Lipton Sparkling Surprise tea, Moet & Chandon champagne, and Skyy vodka, with Halston playing a prominent role possibly in partnership with Sarah Jessica Parker’s new position as chief creative officer of the high-end fashion brand.
It’s still unknown as to whether Carrie Bradshaw’s Mac-to-PC allegiance change will be mentioned in the actual film.

Just to update you and your readers. Carrie still uses her MacBook Pro in SATC2.
The Apple logo is not seen, but the shape and color is unmistakably Apple. So is the MagSafe adapter.
